The Steering Committee will have the overall responsibility for directing the substantive and technical content and structure of the Conference including guidance, support, review and clearance of:

• The Conference agenda and related events
• The guidelines for the preparation of the Conference Thematic Papers, Case Studies and National Investment Briefs
• Other official outputs, including Conference proceedings and final declaration/action plan

The Steering Committee will also ensure the necessary coordination for the smooth preparation, running and follow up of the Conference, and will extend invitations to other representative bodies as observers.

The Steering Committee will be composed of:

• Representative(s) of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, the host country (Chair of the Steering Committee)
• Executive Secretary of the Conference (Director Land and Water Division, FAO)
• Representatives from the African Union, NEPAD, Economic Commission for Africa, African Development Bank, AMCOW, World Bank and IWMI
• The Africa Regional Representative to FAO based in Rome
• Observers

The Steering Committee will have a minimum of two face to face meeting one in June and one in October 2008 and 2 Teleconference meetings prior to the Conference.
